Let me get this straight. Asio4all/ audio interface

Hello guys

I bought dubbler 2 standalone yesterday as I already have a half decent usb mic but I hit a brick wall so want something clearing up

Basically to use my own mic I need to use asio4all? So I installed it but then found out it takes control of Ableton so I then can’t hear YouTube/ Spotify etc

I really want to use this great piece of software but don’t want to have to keep switching it around

Tldr

If I was to buy the vochlea mic would I still be able to record in dubbler 2 but also be able to tab out and watch YouTube?

Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately if you’re on Windows and don’t have an audio interface then ASIO4ALL is needed for low latency. The downside to ASIO4ALL is that only one application can use an deivce for audio output at a time, if you are using the Dubler USB mic you will still need to use ASIO4ALL as the output in Ableton so it doesn’t resolve the issue

We realise this isn’t ideal, this is unfortunately a downside of getting low latency on Windows and is why we mark ASIO4ALL as a limited experience on our minimum specifications - System requirements | Dubler 2

If you’d like a smooth experience switching between applications the best route would be to use a multi-client ASIO driver (this means multiple apps can use the same ASIO driver) which usually come with an audio interface. You can alternatievly also try something like FlexASIO. I haven’t tested this extensively myself but some users have had success with it. You can find Ableton’s article on it here - https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/4515794042898-Multi-Client-Operation-Drivers-Windows

If you need any help setting up with ASIO4ALL let me know or happy to answer any questions. I realise the world of Windows and ASIO drivers can be a bit frustrating at times!

Thanks for the response - Looks like I need to get an audio interface then as I dont want to muck around with audio drivers

Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Gen - Andertons Music Co.

Is this a good choice?

Yes the focusrite drivers work really smoothly, would defo recommend!

What are the ideal models of Scarlett for Dubler 2? There is a 3rd Gen and a 4th Gen. Any benefits to the 4th Gen for Dubler 2? Does the Scarlett Solo work or do I need the 2i2?

Hi,

It really depends on your setup / what you intend to do. If you are just planning on using the interface as an audio output then it would make no real difference between the different generations. The ASIO drivers will still be the same.

The different generations have changes like different pre-amps, clip control e.t.c but these don’t really matter when it comes to Dubler, so the simpler the better i’d say!

I bought the Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen and now Dubler 2 does allow it to be setup. “Couldn’t Open The Input Device”. Sound works with it on other programs. Drivers have been reinstalled 5 times. No other audio programs are open
